Bookish Substacks that I hope you'll like

Hey, Reader,

I hope you had a great week and that it's starting to feel like fall where you are. This is such a gorgeous time of year where I live in Arizona.

Since starting a Substack earlier this year, I've been spending more time on the app.

I don't have the stamina to engage with social media, but Substack has been a tad addicting, and that has raised my eyebrows.

Substack is like a water cooler where all the AP English nerds have gathered to discuss what they're reading and writing. There's barely any video. Just text and photos. The occasional meme. No advertisements.

If you're on Substack, then you probably got the "My Substack Summer" recap, showing you what you read, what you discovered, what you commented on, etc.

This "shareable asset" is the most gimmicky thing I've received from the app so far, but it was kind of cute, I guess. I felt rather proud that I read nearly a million words but only watched 1 minute of video. (Who knows how accurate these stats actually are?)

But my point is that if you enjoy hearing from writers, readers, and thinkers, you just might love Substack.

I thought about sharing some Substacks that I subscribe to, but then I figured it might be more helpful to share a few specific articles that I found entertaining and insightful.

I hope you'll consider subscribing to these fine folks. There's a lot more where this came from.
